A signed soundwave artwork for Roundhouse

A 2019 fundraising initiative connected a song from the catalogue with a visual soundwave artwork, made to support Roundhouse creative programmes for young people.

Music translated into a visual form

In February 2019, a fundraising project brought together a signed artwork based on the soundwave of a Ray Davies song and the youth-focused work of Roundhouse. The initiative treated the audio signal as a starting point for an original visual piece.

The artwork was created through a collaboration involving artist Tim Wakefield and the Soundwaves Art Foundation. The original was signed for auction, while prints were intended to help raise funds for the Roundhouse programme.

Roundhouse has long been associated with opportunities for young people to build skills and confidence through creative activity, including music, media and performance. In this context, the signed work served as a route for turning an element of recorded music into support for those programmes.

This entry preserves the announcement as historical context. It is not a current auction notice or an indication that prints or related items remain available.

Why this belongs here

An artwork project in the public record

The Resource includes selected historic announcements when they show another way songs have travelled beyond releases and performances: into visual work, public events and cultural fundraising activity.

Editorial approach

How historic notices are handled

01

Identify

We retain the essential event, participants and public purpose of a documented announcement.

02

Contextualise

Background is added to explain why the item relates to the musical and cultural record.

03

Date clearly

Resource status makes clear that historic projects, listings and offers are not current notices.
